Ultrasound Imaging of Ulnar Collateral Ligament Injury.

چکیده
The patient was an 18-year-old collegiate baseball pitcher who injured his right throwing elbow during an overhead slider pitch. As a part of a study, preinjury ultrasound images of the throwing arm were obtained 2 weeks prior to the injury. One day postinjury, repeat ultrasound imaging of the medial elbow was performed. The attending team physician ordered a magnetic resonance arthrogram 2 days after injury, which confirmed the presence of a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament. The ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the thumb metacarpophalangeal joint is a static stabilizer that may rupture from a hyperabduction injury. Although some UCL tears may heal with immobilization, outcomes are worse for Stener lesions, in which the proximal ligament stump slips out from beneath the adductor pollicis aponeurosis and is entrapped proximal and superficial to the aponeurosis, pre...

Gamekeeper’s thumb is used to describe an acut or chronic injury to Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) of thumb. We present the Magnetic Rezonance İmaging (MRI) findings of a rare case with gamekeeper’s thumb. MRI allows optimal detection and evaluation of most soft-tissue and bone lesions in the traumatic finger, including injuries the collateral ligaments.

BACKGROUND Injury to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the first metacarpophalangeal joint (MCPJ) is a common injury, especially in skiers. It is often misdiagnosed, which can lead to chronic instability. OBJECTIVE This article reviews the current literature on UCL injury of the thumb and describes the clinical assessment and management. DISCUSSION The UCL of the thumb is often injured...

The ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) is more commonly injured than previously suggested. Injury to this ligament can result in secondary symptoms and problems in other parts of the elbow, including the ulnar nerve, the flexor-pronator musculotendinous unit, the radiocapitellar joint, and the posterior compartment of the elbow, in addition to being a cause of loose bodies within the elbow. This a...
